Valued Opinions Review Is It a Reliable Program Paid Surveys Online

0

valued opinionsGetting online income is quite interesting for modern people. One of the methods is through this paid survey program. It’s one of the most blessed names when it comes to market research. Yet, the problem is that most people don’t know how it works and its reliability. This increases the doubts and questions why people doubt its legality. Some people even think it’s a scam site. What’s the truth? Is it really safe? Our Valued opinions review has some good answers for you. In the terms of reliability, the site has gathered a certification and membership of CASRO. In fact, they have gained A+ score from the BBB.

Global Interest towards Valued Opinions

Members are able to take surveys in different languages. The survey panel is accessible in many countries all over the world. Panelists will get cash as the compensation. They can redeem it once they finish surveys that they take. In fact, there are also many great deals that members can get. How can people take part in the surveys? First of all, they must become a member in this program. It’s free as they don’t need to pay anything. People need to visit the homepage and fill a registration application. They have already become a member once they confirm their membership.

Valued Opinions Review: What Can Members Get from this paid survey site?

Once people have confirmed their membership at Valued Opinions, they need to furnish their profile information. It will help them getting potential surveys to be done. The site will help member to access more surveys through hot topics. Members may expect to get emails enclosing surveys. The estimated time to finish the surveys is around 15 minutes. How much can members earn? It ranges from $1 per regular survey up to $5. There are some surveys that can give members around $49. Once they complete their surveys, they need to wait for 28 days before they get the money. Some people can’t wait for this cash out, though.

--->   ACOP review

According to the site, all new members are able to take the chance for a lottery with some interesting prizes. Yet, this kind of sweepstakes isn’t available anymore. There isn’t any official announcement about it yet. There’s a cash system for rewarding members on this survey panel. However, it doesn’t give instant cash payments. Members are only able to earn their rewards through merchandise and gift certificates. For the cash out, they need to way for 28 days. It seems unreliable for some of the people. Thus, there are many people who don’t believe in this site. How is this report working for you so far?

Well, valued opinions program doesn’t only provide cash for members. There’s also an option of redeeming such as Amazon gift cards. It’s due to its prompt delivery through email after people make a request. The minimum amount of payout is $20. Once members reach that number, they can redeem it for cash or gift certificates. Some brands where people can exchange their gift cards are Amazon, Macy’s, Visa, and even Blockbuster. Although there are many choices of venders, people can’t pick it at will. The site determines the gift cards to send through members’ email. After all, it will be delivered in a prompt manner. Was this Valued opinions review useful for you?

5 Mess Free Healthy On The Go Snacks Snacks

0

Im a huge snacker - whether it be on the go or with a cup of tea mid afternoon. Sometimes, I find myself snacking my way through the day (Im a poet) and it will get to tea time and I wont want a proper meal, oops.

But, it is so easy to grab a chocolate bar, a packet of crisps or some other unhealthy snack, that although may be delicious now, it wont keep you full for longer and the cycle will be repeated. However, recently, Ive seen a huge increase in the range of healthy snacks that are available in supermarkets etc.

So, as it is the month of back to school, I thought Id compile a list of some of my favourite go-to snacks. Also, they are mess free which is always a bonus especially if you are taking them on the go. Whos got time to open that tub of hummus and start dipping those carrots?!

5 Mess-Free Healthy On The Go Snacks Snacks

5 Mess-Free Healthy On The Go Snacks SnacksEnergy Bars/Ball

These homemade goodies are everywhere on pinterest! There are so many recipes and flavours to choose from. They are perfect for making at the weekend to be stored in the fridge for the week and grabbed whenever you feel peckish or packed in some tupperware for on the go. Here are some recipes which look delicious:
  • Peanut butter date bites
  • Blueberry muffin energy balls
  • Coconut date energy bites
  • Apricot chia energy bars
  • Oatmeal superfood breakfast bars

Trek Protein Bars

If you dont have time to make your own, or youre just too lazy to (Im guilty of that more often than not), then these protein bars* from trek are perfect! With them being a packed with vegan protein, up to 10g (Im no expert on that kind of stuff, but I know thats very good), they are super filling. Seriously, whenever Im hungry and tuck into one of these, I find Im not hungry for a good 3 hours at least. Plus, because they are packaged, it means even less mess.

Trek Protein Flapjacks Multipack Mixed Box

These bars of deliciousness are also:
• Wheat free
• Gluten free
• Transfats free
• GM free
• Vegan friendly

The guys over at Nature Balance Foods very kindly sent a mixed box of the flapjacks to try - Ive got to say that my favourite would probably have to be the cocoa coconut, simply because it tastes like a bounty. But they are all delicious! Also, I love the idea of buying a large mixed box as it is, not only convenient, but also works out cheaper.

Trek Protein Flapjacks Multipack Mixed Box

One last thing, I found the best before thing quite funny.

Trek Protein Flapjacks Nutritional Information

Rice Cakes

Not just any rice cakes, baby rice cakes. Yes, you heard me. You need to head to the baby food isle in the supermarket and pick up a bag or two of their flavoured rice cakes. My favourite are the berry ones! Plus, because they are made for toddlers, they dont have anything bad or harmful in them.

Fruit

This is an obvious one but its a great one to add to the list. Personally, I always opt for bananas - not only because they are my favourite fruit, but because they dont really cause much mess. Well, I say they dont cause much mess but if you dont put them in a tupperware box then you run the risk of having it become squished all over the other items in your bag; trust me, Ive had that happen to me on multiple occasions.

Another reason I go for bananas is that they are the most filling, have one or two and youre good to go for a good while. Whereas with things like apples, youd have to eat quite a lot as I tend to get hungry 15 minutes later after eating one.

Dried Fruit

Having dried fruit to hand is brilliant! Because its like eating a healthy sweet (that actually tastes good). Dried figs are probably my favourite option and sometimes dates - plus, if you eat a good handful, they are quite filling.

What are some of your favourite snacks?

Also Id really appreciate if you filled in my reader survey, it will only take a minute or 2, please click on the button below or here, it will only take a few minutes!

A Batch Of Birthday Cupcakes

0

Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes recipe

Happy new year! I hope you all had a wonderful 2014 - I feel like Im still stuck in 2012. Whether you where in full blown party mode or asleep by 9pm, Id love to know how you spent new years eve. Also have you made any resolutions/goals for the new year, I shared mine the other day in this post.

Usually, on new years we have another big meal like at Christmas and, since its also my brothers birthday on the 1st January, it means more cake. The food galore continues! But as we still have half a Christmas cake left, a big box of biscuits and a years worth supply of chocolate, I opted to baked a small batch of cupcakes. I thought Id share this little bake with you.

Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes recipe

I mainly used the Healthier Mini Vanilla Cupcakes from EatGood4Life, but halved the recipe which made 8 cupcakes. However, I think I put a little too much in each case and I could of made an extra one - which would have been perfect as my brother turned 9. I also went half and half using brown and white sugar.

Measurements I used :
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes recipe

Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes recipe
Lets face it this is what baking for the majority of people looks like, well I hope its not just me, spilling the mixing everywhere.
Also, there was some left over chocolate in the cupboard, from making Christmas treat gifts. So I half filled the cupcake cases, melted down the chocolate, placed a spoonful of chocolate in the centre of each case and then put another spoonful of cake batter on top. They turned out wonderfully. I think this is a brilliant little go to recipe and can easily be jazzed up by simply adding some icing.

The First One Bites The Dust

0

Its a loving evening so I thought Id write a blog post, sat outside in the shade of my garden. Seeing as my room feels the same temperature as a greenhouse during this part of the day. But now instead Im being attacked by flies, why can you never escape them during summer!

So Im currently one week into my summer holidays. I feel so lost. Its not that I never had free time while at college, I just dont know how to fill my time! During term time when I get bored of procrastinating on the internet I can turn to doing work or something else that should be my main priority. Because of this Ive actually made a start on completing my summer bucket list and already managed to cross one thing off. Ive actually surprised myself as I thought Id be cramming and crossing within the last week!

Swimming gear. Water bottle, goggles, comb, herbal essences shampoo and conditioner, towel, swimming costume, shower gel, Moroccan oil

Let me tell you that not going swimming in 7 years really takes its toll on your swimming abilities. Not to mention the fact I through my goggles away a fair bit ago. At least I only went in the shallow side of the pool, right? Nope. I was wrong. I decided to start off with breast stroke, as I thought it would be easier to do without goggles than front crawl, not even half a length in and I had to stop. Panting, gasping for air, water in my eyes and up my nose - I looked like an idiot! And of course people noticed. Great.

There was one man who stopped next to me and started to make the okay hand signal, after saying I was fine, he then pointed to his ears and stated he was deaf. Now, I know some deaf people dont speak either and instead just mime. It was just my luck this guy was one of them. I honestly wouldnt have minded if I was wearing my glasses. But because I dont own contact lenses, not being able to clearly see 30cm in front of you really sucks, and I couldnt read his lips. I had no clue what he was saying to me and I felt so rude. Besides, I couldnt exactly go face to face with this stranger. So I just kind of signalled okay and swam off (well attempted too).

What happened next? Well I felt like the lifeguards where maybe concerned about me as one came and sat around the shallow side of the pool. But, of course, I couldnt see if they where watching me look like a drowning dog or not because every time I glanced at them they where just a blurry peachy blob (short-sighted problems). Any fellow glasses wearers out there, is it just me who feels naked when Im not wearing them?

I have managed to go for a second time today - with goggles. Let me tell you they make a huge difference. Wow. However, my stamina, yeah thats still rock bottom.

Have any of you managed to cross things off your summer bucket lists?

Practice doesnt make perfect. Practice reduces imperfection. - Toba Beta

Vegetable Noodle Soup

0

One of the main themes that seems to run through all my meals, is that they are quick. I don’t always like to begin preparing a meal hours beforehand, except for certain occasions, because I’ll either get too impatient or won’t be hungry when it’s ready. Therefore, when hunger strikes, it’s handy to have a good handful of go to quick recipes.

green noodle soup

This delicious noodle soup came about through throwing whatever was in the fridge in a pan, hoping it would turn out good. Well, I can happily say it did – I enjoyed it that much, that I had it for my lunch the following 2 days as well.

Not only is it quick, it’s also: healthy, filling, warming, easily modified to serve more or less people and you can use whatever veg you have to hand.

vegan noodle soup

Note: If Im being honest, I dont normally weigh or measure out quantities when cooking meals, I usually just eye it. So I am just giving a rough idea on the amount to use. Who has time to precisely measure everything out?

Ingredients:

Serves 4
  • 325g Rice noodles (I used these rice noodles)
  • 1 head of broccoli
  • A good amount of brussel sprouts
  • 4-5 handfuls of spinach
  • Vegetable stock cube
  • Water
*optional – water chestnuts

Directions:

1. Firstly prepare the veg. Chop the broccoli stalks and slice the sprouts in half, then thoroughly wash all the veg.
2. Steam the sprouts and broccoli until cooked (around 7-10 minutes).
3. Boil the kettle to save cooking time.
4. Pour the cooked veg into a pan and add in the rice noodles. Pour in the hot water, enough to just cover the veg and noodles, then crumble in the stock cube before adding in the spinach and stir.
5. Continue stirring occasionally, until the spinach has wilted – it should take around 2-3 minutes. Add in chestnuts if using.
6. Then serve and enjoy.

Backwards At Coming Forward

0

Do you have an idea what this blog post could be about? Okay, so the title may not make any sense to you, but I bet that after reading what it means youll think of something similar - relating to you.

Backwards at coming forwards is a little saying Ive been brought up on, my dad has always used it to describe me. Up until a few months ago I never really fully understood what he meant by it.

Shyness. A shy looking child

I have always been known as a quiet, shy person whos never thrown themselves into anything. Therefore when it comes to taking steps in life, either big or small, I have stepped backwards - metaphorically speaking. So something as simple as walking into a shop to ask for a job has been seen as a no go event for me, instead of taking that chance and opportunity I dont do anything about it and remain in the same position.

There are so many more examples I could use, such as making new friends, talking to boys, taking part in something completely new and out my comfort zone. Im sure that as youre reading this little situations are popping into your head where this saying could apply to you.

I actually just searched the saying on Google and it turns out its not something my dad came up with - which I originally thought. The Cambridge dictionary online has a definition stating it is to be shy and not often express wishes or opinions. So I suppose theres many others out there who are the same.

But the reason for this post is I want to change that! Ive wanted to set up a blog for quite some time now and ,after finally understanding why I dont seem to be achieving the things I would like, Im doing it - and keeping at it! Enough putting things off and waiting for others to push and guide me. I no longer want to be backwards at coming forwards.

Can you think of any situations where this applies to you?

Infuse your life with action. Dont wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not be passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on earth - Bradley Whitford

After one days missing, Toroads.com has come back. I tried to log in yesterday, and found toroads site is missing. I thought it was the problem of my browser, I use Google Chrome by the way, and I switched to firefox. Still I cannot get the webpage, there is only a blank page with some unknown characters on it.
I went to a forum today, and found some one is still promoting it. I guess its back, and I am right. I m so close to get the payout, maybe tomorrow. So its a good news any way. This is the best I can expect, hopefully, it can hold for another few days untill I get my reward.

Summer Fashion Wishlist 2015

0

In the past, during summer time, I havent really been too bothered about what Im wearing, purely because of the fact that I didnt have a clue what to wear other than the same standard things. Im one of those people who when I find something I like, it sticks! Not in the sense that I have a favourite outfit which I wear at least once a week. Nope. I take it to the next level and I literally become like a cartoon character (never looking different). Need an example? Well, lets just say I wore pigtails everyday for about 3 years. Oh and we mustnt forget the wonderful cropped jeans, carefully folded down white knee high socks and silver ballet shoes that were my staple around the same time (I was about 11, dont judge).

Image: Summer Fashion Wishlist

Over the years, I have gotten much better at changing things up. Those cropped jeans are long gone, but Ive noticed that leggings seem to have taken their place. I understand that some people dislike the standard black leggings, but they are so comfy so Im happy.

But, I have been wanting to slip my legs into more jeans, preferably ones that are stretchy and comfy, which is why Ive added some topshop jeans to the list. Yes, I know Im late to the whole topshop jean hype, well Im not technically part of it yet as I havent purchased any, but I plan to.

I also need to step out of my comfort zone in the shoe area, instead of converse day in day out. Personally, Im not a fan of getting my feet out on display but I love these 2 pairs of shoes as they appear to still keep most of the foot covered.

Fun fact: I own no jewellery other than a tub of earrings. That needs to change and I have been loving the look of dainty necklaces for a while now.

As I have browsed for these items over a few days, I didnt realise that I mainly chose dark coloured things even though this is meant to be a summer wishlist. Well, my mum does say I suit dark colours more, so Id look pretty good wearing these...Id hope.

Avocado treatment wax beauty formulas review

Ive had this product for definitely more than a year now and rediscovered it in the bottom of a box a few weeks ago. How could I have forgot about it? I used to use it once every 2-3 weeks! Supposedly, you could say I have really slackened off, since this time last year, on taking care of my hair. Tut tut, I know. But as I have been going swimming a least twice a week ,and still yet to purchase a swimming cap, I thought itd probably be in my best interest to polish up my hair care routine.

Id say the avocado treatment wax is aimed towards people with dry, damaged hair as it is an intensive deep conditioner, which claims to restore softness, shine and lustre. As the treatment contains pure avocado oil so it provides nourishment for the hair. In my opinion Id definitely agree with that! After using this product I instantly see and feel a difference, I cant even describe how soft my hair feels. However, if I dont wash it thoroughly enough I am left with greasy hair.

You use the product like a hair mask after shampooing by applying to towel dried hair, then wrapping in a warm damp towel for around 5-10 minutes. I usually leave it on for about 10-12 minutes, whilst letting a face mask get to work too. When you are massaging the wax into your scalp it feels amazing, its nice a cooling and just glides into your hair without it getting all tangled - which I find happens sometimes when using hair masks.

Personally, I dont like the smell of it and because I find it leaves a scent on my hair after washing it out, I generally just apply a nice smelling conditioner to mask its scent. But the purpose of the product isnt to make my hair smell nice so thats not really an affecting factor.

Im unsure of where I originally picked up this tub from but you can find it on the beauty formulas website, which is priced a £5.99. Or you can purchase it from amazon for £1! I am without a doubt, grabbing myself another tub because it is a very inexpensive product that truly works well. Im unable to compare it to any high end products as of yet, but maybe sometime soon I will see if anything can top this.

        In a nutshell

               + Does what it claims
               + Inexpensive
               + Easy Application
               + Quick results

               - Can leave hair greasy if not thoroughly washed out
               - Doesnt have a great scent

What is a blog and What are Blogs Used For

0

What is a blog? Not only that, but what are blogs used for? If you don’t know the answer to that, where have you been for the last three or four years? The word blog is short for web log, and is strictly a record of the changing content of your website. People who were interested in the content of your site would register to receive your blog, and would be informed whenever a page on your site was updated.

However, although that is still a prime use for blogs, they are now also used for advertising and passing on information. Many use blogs as a type of article site, wherein there are no restrictions on their content or on the degree of advertising they include in the article body. If blogs are nothing but blatant adverts, however, they will tend to have very few subscribers.

Blogs can also allow comments to be posted by readers, although this is an option that not all bloggers allow. It is a good way to allow interaction on your website, and is something like a low key forum. However, blogs that allow this interaction tend to be more popular than those that do not, unless they are specifically known for their useful content.

There are two easy ways for the beginner to start blogging, and these are through Blogger and Wordpress. Blogger belongs to Google, and strictly the content on your blogs on the Blogger site also belongs to Google. Blogger is not run from your own website, but from a site provided to you by Google, although you can provide a link from your website to your blog page. This, however, bleeds PageRank from your web page containing the link to your blog.

Wordpress is a more advanced blogging option, and you can either have it hosted by Wordpress, in the same way that Google hosts Blogger, or you can host your Wordpress blog yourself. The latter is preferable because there are many Wordpress plugins you can use to personalize or customize your blog. Once you get the hang of how Wordpress works from your own website, then that is by far the better method. Links to your blog are then from one page of your site to another, and can be used as part of your internal linking strategy.

Blogs are used by many people to make money, and if you know how to use blogs for profit, then they can be a very good source of income. Some need no other since they make many thousands of dollars monthly only from their blogs. What is a blog to some is that it is their entire living. To reach that standard, however, you have a lot of learning to do, but it can be done. There are no secrets about blogs, and all it takes is the knowledge of how to use them and a bit of intelligence and common sense.

Another aspect of blogs that can be used to your advantage in marketing your website is Blog and Ping. This refers to the use of social bookmarking sites and others such as Technorati, where you can register your blog and ping them, or let them know when your blog content has been changed. Other such sites are del.icio.us. blinklist and spurl among others. There are techniques that can be used to help you get useful one-way links back to your website, and also exposure of your blog, and hence the adverts on it, to users of these very popular web2 sites.

So the answer to the question What is a Blog, is that it is a very useful means of communicating with others and a good way to keep your email list informed of new material on your website that could be useful to them. What are blogs used for? To market your site and your products, but also to keep people in touch with what is happening on your web site.

Use it right, and a blog can be the main tool you use to advertise your site, and you will no longer have to pay for advertising or other means of driving traffic to your site. A blog can do that job very well.

For more information and a fabulous offer on how to use blogs for profit, check out Peter’s web site http://www.create-a-blog.net where you will receive not only useful information on blogging, but also on search engine marketing in general.

A Change Of Heart University Searching

0

At the beginning of this year I had a sudden change of heart about what I wanted to do after I left college and the path I would like to take in the future - which is something I never thought would happen and neither did those around me. Ive always been more of a creative person and from the age of around 9/10 I developed a big interest in film and TV production and would spend hours watching the behind the scenes footage on DVDs and later on YouTube. I just felt as though a job in that area would suit me well and it would be something Id enjoy. I got looking into how I could enter this field and came across quite a few apprenticeships and internships to help build skills and knowledge and I was set on finishing college and finding something like this to do.

Although I still love the idea of working in a creative environment like that, I recently became really interested in psychology. I simply picked to do it at A level because it not only sounded intriguing, but I needed something to fill my options. Within a few months of studying it, I decided I wanted to study it further after college - so began looking into universities.

calendar july august september october

Before this, I was against going to uni as I originally wanted to learn while doing, but the idea of studying psychology further and more in depth excites me now. Over the past few months Ive been attending open days, not really knowing what to be looking for. And after attending my last one the other day I thought Id share this big step with you.

Im not going to lie, it does scare me. The fact that me, someone who still looks about 13, someone who would much rather spend my time at home in the kitchen and on my laptop than out with friends and partying and someone who still likes to think Im too young to be going off into the bigger world. But Im thinking about it in a positive way - Ill be learning about something I really enjoy and living in a new place.

Out of the unis I have visited, Ive got an idea of the 1 or 2 I would love to go to. There was a particular one that stood out simply because that day we saw a beautiful sunrise, 3 rainbows, found a penny heads up and a bird pooped on the car - so muck for luck. I seriously wish I had taken my camera (I need to get into the habit of taking it everywhere with me).We cant forget the 2 hour traffic jam on the way home - its like the place didnt want me to leave.

Are any of you currently applying to university or are you taking a different route? Or are you currently at university and have any advice to share because Id love to know!

The Definition Of Blog

0

A blog (a portmanteau of the term web log)[1] is a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
The emergence and growth of blogs in the late 1990s coincided with the advent of web publishing tools that facilitated the posting of content by non-technical users. (Previously a knowledge of such technologies as HTML and FTP had been required to publish content on the Web.)
Although not a must, most good quality blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via GUI widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.[2] In that sense, blogging can be seen as a form of social networking. Indeed, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers.[3]
Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries; yet still others function more as online brand advertising of a particular individual or company. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (video blogging or vlogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.
As of 16 February 2011, there were over 156 million public blogs in existence.[4]

[edit] History

Early example of a "diary" style blog consisting of text and images transmitted wirelessly in real time from a wearable computer with headup display, 1995 February 22nd
The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger[5] on 17 December 1997. The short form, "blog," was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999.[6][7][8] Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used "blog" as both a noun and verb ("to blog," meaning "to edit ones weblog or to post to ones weblog") and devised the term "blogger" in connection with Pyra Labs Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.[9]

[edit] Origins

Before blogging became popular, digital communities took many forms, including Usenet, commercial online services such as GEnie, BiX and the early CompuServe, e-mail lists[10] and Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). In the 1990s, Internet forum software, created running conversations with "threads." Threads are topical connections between messages on a virtual "corkboard."
The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of their personal lives. Most such writers called themselves diarists, journalists, or journalers. Justin Hall, who began personal blogging in 1994 while a student at Swarthmore College, is generally recognized as one of the earlier bloggers,[11] as is Jerry Pournelle.[12] Dave Winers Scripting News is also credited with being one of the older and longer running weblogs.[13][14] Another early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a persons personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and EyeTap device to a web site in 1994. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance, and such journals were also used as evidence in legal matters.
Early blogs were simply manually updated components of common Web sites. However, the evolution of tools to facilitate the production and maintenance of Web articles posted in reverse chronological order made the publishing process feasible to a much larger, less technical, population. Ultimately, this resulted in the distinct class of online publishing that produces blogs we recognize today. For instance, the use of some sort of browser-based software is now a typical aspect of "blogging". Blogs can be hosted by dedicated blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software, or on regular web hosting services.
Some early bloggers, such as The Misanthropic Bitch, who began in 1997, actually referred to their online presence as a zine, before the term blog entered common usage.

[edit] Rise in popularity

After a slow start, blogging rapidly gained in popularity. Blog usage spread during 1999 and the years following, being further popularized by the near-simultaneous arrival of the first hosted blog tools:
  • Bruce Ableson launched Open Diary in October 1998, which soon grew to thousands of online diaries. Open Diary innovated the reader comment, becoming the first blog community where readers could add comments to other writers blog entries.
  • Brad Fitzpatrick started LiveJournal in March 1999.
  • Andrew Smales created Pitas.com in July 1999 as an easier alternative to maintaining a "news page" on a Web site, followed by Diaryland in September 1999, focusing more on a personal diary community.[15]
  • Evan Williams and Meg Hourihan (Pyra Labs) launched blogger.com in August 1999 (purchased by Google in February 2003)

[edit] Political impact

See also: Political blog
On 6 December 2002, Josh Marshalls talkingpointsmemo.com blog called attention to U.S. Senator Lotts comments regarding Senator Thurmond. Senator Lott was eventually to resign his Senate leadership position over the matter.
An early milestone in the rise in importance of blogs came in 2002, when many bloggers focused on comments by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott.[16] Senator Lott, at a party honoring U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, praised Senator Thurmond by suggesting that the United States would have been better off had Thurmond been elected president. Lotts critics saw these comments as a tacit approval of racial segregation, a policy advocated by Thurmonds 1948 presidential campaign. This view was reinforced by documents and recorded interviews dug up by bloggers. (See Josh Marshalls Talking Points Memo.) Though Lotts comments were made at a public event attended by the media, no major media organizations reported on his controversial comments until after blogs broke the story. Blogging helped to create a political crisis that forced Lott to step down as majority leader.
Similarly, blogs were among the driving forces behind the "Rathergate" scandal. To wit: (television journalist) Dan Rather presented documents (on the CBS show 60 Minutes) that conflicted with accepted accounts of President Bushs military service record. Bloggers declared the documents to be forgeries and presented evidence and arguments in support of that view. Consequently, CBS apologized for what it said were inadequate reporting techniques (see Little Green Footballs). Many bloggers view this scandal as the advent of blogs acceptance by the mass media, both as a news source and opinion and as means of applying political pressure.
The impact of these stories gave greater credibility to blogs as a medium of news dissemination. Though often seen as partisan gossips,[citation needed] bloggers sometimes lead the way in bringing key information to public light, with mainstream media having to follow their lead. More often, however, news blogs tend to react to material already published by the mainstream media. Meanwhile, an increasing number of experts blogged, making blogs a source of in-depth analysis.

[edit] Mainstream popularity

By 2004, the role of blogs became increasingly mainstream, as political consultants, news services, and candidates began using them as tools for outreach and opinion forming. Blogging was established by politicians and political candidates to express opinions on war and other issues and cemented blogs role as a news source. (See Howard Dean and Wesley Clark.) Even politicians not actively campaigning, such as the UKs Labour Partys MP Tom Watson, began to blog to bond with constituents.
In January 2005, Fortune magazine listed eight bloggers that business people "could not ignore": Peter Rojas, Xeni Jardin, Ben Trott, Mena Trott, Jonathan Schwartz, Jason Goldman, Robert Scoble, and Jason Calacanis.[17]
Israel was among the first national governments to set up an official blog.[18] Under David Saranga, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs became active in adopting Web 2.0 initiatives, including an official video blog[18] and a political blog.[19] The Foreign Ministry also held a microblogging press conference via Twitter about its war with Hamas, with Saranga answering questions from the public in common text-messaging abbreviations during a live worldwide press conference.[20] The questions and answers were later posted on IsraelPolitik, the countrys official political blog.[21]
The impact of blogging upon the mainstream media has also been acknowledged by governments. In 2009, the presence of the American journalism industry had declined to the point that several newspaper corporations were filing for bankruptcy, resulting in less direct competition between newspapers within the same circulation area. Discussion emerged as to whether the newspaper industry would benefit from a stimulus package by the federal government. President Barack Obama acknowledged the emerging influence of blogging upon society by saying "if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, then what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding”.[22]

[edit] Types

There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way that content is delivered or written.
Personal blogs
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life, or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following. One type of personal blog, referred to as a microblog, is extremely detailed and seeks to capture a moment in time. Some sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family, and are much faster than emailing or writing.
Corporate and organizational blogs
A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs. Similar blogs for clubs and societies are called club blogs, group blogs, or by similar names; typical use is to inform members and other interested parties of club and member activities.
By genre
Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs (also known as travelogs), gardening blogs, house blogs,[23][24] fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs (often referred to as a blawgs) or dreamlogs. Two common types of genre blogs are art blogs and music blogs. A blog featuring discussions especially about home and family is not uncommonly called a mom blog and one made popular is by Erica Diamond who created Womenonthefence.com which is syndicated to over two million readers monthly.[25][26][27][28][29][30] While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a Splog.
By media type
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog or one comprising photos is called a photoblog.[31] Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumblelogs. Blogs that are written on typewriters and then scanned are called typecast or typecast blogs; see typecasting (blogging).
A rare type of blog hosted on the Gopher Protocol is known as a Phlog.
By device
Blogs can also be defined by which type of device is used to compose it. A blog written by a mobile device like a mobile phone or PDA could be called a moblog.[32] One early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a persons personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and EyeTap device to a web site. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance. Such journals have been used as evidence in legal matters.[citation needed]
Reverse blog
A Reverse Blog is composed by its users rather than a single blogger. This system has the characteristics of a blog, and the writing of several authors. These can be written by several contributing authors on a topic, or opened up for anyone to write. There is typically some limit to the number of entries to keep it from operating like a Web Forum.

[edit] Community and cataloging

The Blogosphere
The collective community of all blogs is known as the blogosphere. Since all blogs are on the internet by definition, they may be seen as interconnected and socially networked, through blogrolls, comments, linkbacks (refbacks, trackbacks or pingbacks) and backlinks. Discussions "in the blogosphere" are occasionally used by the media as a gauge of public opinion on various issues. Because new, untapped communities of bloggers can emerge in the space of a few years, Internet marketers pay close attention to "trends in the blogosphere".[33]
Blog search engines
Several blog search engines are used to search blog contents, such as Bloglines, BlogScope, and Technorati. Technorati, which is among the more popular blog search engines, provides current information on both popular searches and tags used to categorize blog postings.[34] The research community is working on going beyond simple keyword search, by inventing new ways to navigate through huge amounts of information present in the blogosphere, as demonstrated by projects like BlogScope.[citation needed]
Blogging communities and directories
Several online communities exist that connect people to blogs and bloggers to other bloggers, including BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog.[35] Interest-specific blogging platforms are also available. For instance, Blogster has a sizable community of political bloggers among its members. Global Voices aggregates international bloggers, "with emphasis on voices that are not ordinarily heard in international mainstream media."[36]
Blogging and advertising
It is common for blogs to feature advertisements either to financially benefit the blogger or to promote the bloggers favorite causes. The popularity of blogs has also given rise to "fake blogs" in which a company will create a fictional blog as a marketing tool to promote a product.[37]

[edit] Popularity

Researchers have analyzed the dynamics of how blogs become popular. There are essentially two measures of this: popularity through citations, as well as popularity through affiliation (i.e. blogroll). The basic conclusion from studies of the structure of blogs is that while it takes time for a blog to become popular through blogrolls, permalinks can boost popularity more quickly, and are perhaps more indicative of popularity and authority than blogrolls, since they denote that people are actually reading the blogs content and deem it valuable or noteworthy in specific cases.[38]
The blogdex project was launched by researchers in the MIT Media Lab to crawl the Web and gather data from thousands of blogs in order to investigate their social properties. It gathered this information for over 4 years, and autonomously tracked the most contagious information spreading in the blog community, ranking it by recency and popularity. It can therefore be considered the first instantiation of a memetracker. The project is no longer active, but a similar function is now served by tailrank.com.
Blogs are given rankings by Technorati based on the number of incoming links and Alexa Internet based on the Web hits of Alexa Toolbar users. In August 2006, Technorati found that the most linked-to blog on the internet was that of Chinese actress Xu Jinglei.[39] Chinese media Xinhua reported that this blog received more than 50 million page views, claiming it to be the most popular blog in the world.[40] Technorati rated Boing Boing to be the most-read group-written blog.[39]

[edit] Blurring with the mass media

Many bloggers, particularly those engaged in participatory journalism, differentiate themselves from the mainstream media, while others are members of that media working through a different channel. Some institutions see blogging as a means of "getting around the filter" and pushing messages directly to the public. Some critics worry that bloggers respect neither copyright nor the role of the mass media in presenting society with credible news. Bloggers and other contributors to user-generated content are behind Time magazine naming their 2006 person of the year as "You".
Many mainstream journalists, meanwhile, write their own blogs — well over 300, according to CyberJournalist.nets J-blog list.[citation needed] The first known use of a blog on a news site was in August 1998, when Jonathan Dube of The Charlotte Observer published one chronicling Hurricane Bonnie.[41]
Some bloggers have moved over to other media. The following bloggers (and others) have appeared on radio and television: Duncan Black (known widely by his pseudonym, Atrios), Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit), Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga (Daily Kos), Alex Steffen (Worldchanging), Ana Marie Cox (Wonkette), Nate Silver (FiveThirtyEight.com), and Ezra Klein (Ezra Klein blog in The American Prospect, now in the Washington Post). In counterpoint, Hugh Hewitt exemplifies a mass-media personality who has moved in the other direction, adding to his reach in "old media" by being an influential blogger.
Blogs have also had an influence on minority languages, bringing together scattered speakers and learners; this is particularly so with blogs in Gaelic languages. Minority language publishing (which may lack economic feasibility) can find its audience through inexpensive blogging.
There are many examples of bloggers who have published books based on their blogs, e.g., Salam Pax, Ellen Simonetti, Jessica Cutler, ScrappleFace. Blog-based books have been given the name blook. A prize for the best blog-based book was initiated in 2005,[42] the Lulu Blooker Prize.[43] However, success has been elusive offline, with many of these books not selling as well as their blogs. Only blogger Tucker Max made the New York Times Bestseller List.[44] The book based on Julie Powells blog "The Julie/Julia Project" was made into the film Julie & Julia, apparently the first to do so.

[edit] Consumer-generated advertising in blogs

Consumer-generated advertising is a relatively new and controversial development and it has created a new model of marketing communication from businesses to consumers. Among the various forms of advertising on blog, the most controversial are the sponsored posts.[45] These are blog entries or posts and may be in the form of feedback, reviews, opinion, videos, etc. and usually contain a link back to the desired site using a keyword/s.
Blogs have led to some disintermediation and a breakdown of the traditional advertising model where companies can skip over the advertising agencies (previously the only interface with the customer) and contact the customers directly themselves. On the other hand, new companies specialised in blog advertising have been established, to take advantage of this new development as well.
However, there are many people who look negatively on this new development. Some believe that any form of commercial activity on blogs will destroy the blogosphere’s credibility.[46]

[edit] Legal and social consequences

Blogging can result in a range of legal liabilities and other unforeseen consequences.

[edit] Defamation or liability

Several cases have been brought before the national courts against bloggers concerning issues of defamation or liability. U.S. payouts related to blogging totaled $17.4 million by 2009; in some cases these have been covered by umbrella insurance.[47] The courts have returned with mixed verdicts. Internet Service Providers (ISPs), in general, are immune from liability for information that originates with third parties (U.S. Communications Decency Act and the EU Directive 2000/31/EC).
In Doe v. Cahill, the Delaware Supreme Court held that stringent standards had to be met to unmask the anonymous posts of bloggers and also took the unusual step of dismissing the libel case itself (as unfounded under American libel law) rather than referring it back to the trial court for reconsideration.[48] In a bizarre twist, the Cahills were able to obtain the identity of John Doe, who turned out to be the person they suspected: the towns mayor, Councilman Cahills political rival. The Cahills amended their original complaint, and the mayor settled the case rather than going to trial.
In January 2007, two prominent Malaysian political bloggers, Jeff Ooi and Ahiruddin Attan, were sued by a pro-government newspaper, The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad, Kalimullah bin Masheerul Hassan, Hishamuddin bin Aun and Brenden John a/l John Pereira over an alleged defamation. The plaintiff was supported by the Malaysian government.[49] Following the suit, the Malaysian government proposed to "register" all bloggers in Malaysia in order to better control parties against their interest.[50] This is the first such legal case against bloggers in the country.
In the United States, blogger Aaron Wall was sued by Traffic Power for defamation and publication of trade secrets in 2005.[51] According to Wired Magazine, Traffic Power had been "banned from Google for allegedly rigging search engine results."[52] Wall and other "white hat" search engine optimization consultants had exposed Traffic Power in what they claim was an effort to protect the public. The case addressed the murky legal question of who is liable for comments posted on blogs.[53] The case was dismi
