My Skincare Routine

0

my skincare routine. candles simple skin care clean and clear duac st ives scrub botanics

It has taken me quite a while to find myself an effective skincare routine, to be honest I think this is the first proper one Ive had and stuck to. If you read my acne story, youll know about my skin type and that I tried countless products. For those of you who dont know, I have the very annoying combination type skin. By which I have an oily t-zone, which can at the same time get dry and flaky, alongside normal cheeks. Finding products that dont completely dry out my skin, but at the same time dont send it shooting up to the oily end, is pretty difficult. So I try and balance out the products I use to suit all my skins needs.

Simple skincare wipes

First of all, at night anyway, I remove my make-up. It may sound strange, but I dont use the typical make-up removing wipes or some kind of special make-up removing lotion, I use baby wipes. Okay, I know it may not remove make-up as well as other methods but I personally wear very little - a bit of concealer, mascara, eye-liner and a dab of powder, and I find they work just find. In my opinion, they are much gentler on the skin with no harsh chemicals, as they are made for babies. Im using Simples Soothing Chamomile Moisturising Wipes. An added bonus is that they are more economical - around £1/£2 for 80 wipes opposed to 25 wipes specifically for removing make up around the same price.

clean&clear cream wash johnson&johnson

Next, Ill cleanse with Clean & Clear Deep Action Cream Wash. I use this both in the morning and at night. I find this product to be really effective whilst still feeling gentle on the skin. As it is a cream wash, it feels so nice when applying to to the skin and afterwards my skin doesnt feel dried out and tight, which I have found with quite a lot of cleansers. Furthermore, its oil free!

St ives apricot scrub

Around 2 or 3 times a week I will use St Ives Apricot Scrub - only at night time. Im sure youve heard many people talk about this product and quite a while ago too. Im not late jumping on the band wagon as Ive been using this for around 2 years now and, once I learnt that its not to be used every night, I could see why everyone loved it. Its a product aimed at oily/blemish prone skin, and although it doesnt have a major impact on my skin, the salicylic acid in it helps to keep some control over blemishes. This is oil free too.

simple skin care kind to skin replenishing rich moisturiser

After cleansing, Ill use Simples Kind To Skin Rich Moisturiser. Ive wrote a full blog post review on this (here), but it is perfect for adding the right amount of moisture my skin needs.

prescribed acne medication duac

Last of all, every night Ill apply a small amount of Duac, which is initially a benzoyl peroxide gel. Again, if you read my acne story, youll know that my doctor put me on prescribed medication and this is the product Im using at the moment and it works much better, on my skin, than salicylic acid.

boots botanics clay mask

Around once every week or fortnight, Ill use a face mask. I have a choice of 2, depending on what I feel my skin needs. If I think it needs a nice deep clean Ill use Botanics Ionic Clay Mask. This was the last product to be added into my routine and I love it! You can really feel a difference after using it, my skin feels so soft, fresh and clean. With many clay masks, Ive found them very over drying on my skin, but this one not so much - I tend to put a little extra moisturiser on afterwards.

On the other hand if I feel my skin needs a little umpf, Ill use a honey mask. Simply applying a thin layer of honey all over my face, massaging it in and then leaving it for 10 minutes before washing off. Honey has many benefits for the skin, it helps soothe and fight acne, moisturises and gives a healthy smooth glow.

And thats pretty much it. Whats your favourite skin care product at the moment?

Creating a Successful Blog Post – From Idea to Promotion

0

Some people think blogging is as simple as thinking up a great idea, punching out a couple hundred words, publishing it, tweeting about it, and then being done with it. Others think blogging is a complex activity that is reserved for those who have some kind of gift. The reality is, it is something in between. It’s about ideas, processes, and strategy. It’s about being passionate about a particular topic. It’s about the synergy of taking what is in your head and translating it to make sense to the masses.
So how do you create a blog post? And not just any blog post, but a successful one? It’s about having a plan, from idea to promotion and everything in between. Here is my blog post process in stages.

The Idea Stage

Ideas hit me all the time – they happen offline when I’m at a conference (for example I will have a TON of ideas during Blog World sessions guaranteed), driving, shopping, or even playing with my dog. They happen online while I’m perusing Google Reader subscriptions, reading other people’s posts, making blog comments, or watching my Twitter list feeds whizz on by.
To make your idea stage as beneficial as possible, you have to make sure that you don’t lose any of those great ideas, whether they are ones that you want to start writing about the moment they pop into your head to ones that you might not actually tackle for another couple of weeks, maybe even months. So whenever you get a great idea, keep track of it – write it on a sticky, send yourself an email, record it by voice on your iPhone… whatever it takes to make sure the idea doesn’t get lost somewhere in your mind never to resurface again.
The key to making your idea stage manageable (especially if you have a lot of rogue ideas that come into your mind all of the time) is to take all of those ideas and get them into one place. My personal favorite tool as you might guess from my previous posts here on affiliate marketing organization and measuring blog growth) is a Google Docs spreadsheet. This spreadsheet has four simple columns:
  • Category – mine usually blogging, social media, SEO, photography, or business.
  • Site – for some titles, I usually try to fit it to one my own blogs or ones I regularly contribute to.
  • Title – the great headline idea.
  • Notes – miscellaneous information that will help me when I get to actually writing the post.
The beauty of this spreadsheet is that I now have over 70 ideas ready to go when I need them, and I can easily use the filters to look at them by subject or by the site I need to write for. That little bank of ideas has come in handy, especially for blog contests. I have won two so far using topic ideas I had thought about over six months before the contest. I like to think that I was subconsciously saving them for something special, and my mind knew that the contests were the right time to unleash them.

The Writing Stage

Now, the time has come where I need to take one of my roaming ideas and make it into a real, live blog post. This part is usually a fluid process for me – sometimes I start by just writing out everything, then organizing it into logical sections after the fact. Other times I will start with a clear outline of header points and then fill in the information as applicable. I like to leave things a bit unstructured during this stage because I like the possibility of having a new idea pop up in the middle which either takes the post in a new direction or gets added to my idea list for another post.
One thing I have found is key during the writing stage is to not let any distractions get in the way, and one of the biggest distractions I have found is obsessing about grammar and spelling. Of course, this lack of obsession has led to little oopses here and there in my posts, but I find that when I stop because Microsoft Word has highlighted a bunch of misspellings, I lose my writing rhythm – my mojo, so to speak. So I write in WordPad which doesn’t do any kind of checks, then copy the post into Microsoft Word for the editing portion.

The SEO Stage

Notice I didn’t think about search optimization until now. People (especially SEO’s) may disagree with this, but I find that if you’re not thinking about optimization, you’re fully focused on producing content that people will love to read. If you’re focused on how many keywords you can stuff in your header tags, the title, and throughout the content, you take away from the reader’s experience.
This is why I wait until after the post is complete to work on some optimization. I take that title I generated during the idea process and look at it to see what kind of keyword phrases would go best. In a recent post on my site, the post was about (and originally titled) comparing DIYthemes’ Thesis Framework to StudioPress’ Genesis Framework. Now I could have spent the first chunk of my time figuring out better titles, meta descriptions, keywords, etc. and then wrote the post, but I chose to write the post instead.
Once the post was done, I went over to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool and started popping in variations of Thesis, Genesis, premium WordPress themes, and so on. And thus was born Thesis vs Genesis – Comparing Premium WordPress Themes. From there, I formulated the meta description, other keywords, trickled through the headers for a bit of tweaking, and voila. Now my post that was constructed purely for reader satisfaction was also made to be SEO friendly.

The Publishing Stage

Wait, isn’t writing and optimizing the post the same as publishing? Nah. I consider some crucial elements during the publishing stage to happen after the writing, editing, and optimizing is done, but before you actually press the publish (or schedule) button.
One thing you want to do during the publishing stage is ensure your post has some kind of call to action. Think about what you want people to do once they’ve read the post – do you want them to purchase a product with your affiliate link, leave a comment, share it on Twitter, read about your services, and/or buy your eBook. If you want people to do something, you need to make sure your post has links to the affiliate products, a question at the end asking people for their opinions, a social sharing button (or a ClicktoTweet link for sites you have no control over their sharing buttons), a lead-in that leads the reader to want your services, and/or a reason that people should logically continue on to check out your eBook.
After establishing your calls to action, you want to ensure that, at the very least, people don’t just leave your post once they’ve finished reading. The way to ensure this is by having some good internal links throughout your content and at the end of the post in the form of Related Posts (WordPress makes a great plugin for related posts too). Internal links might get readers attention as their going along – hopefully they will open them in a new tab and save them for continued reading, and related posts might take them somewhere else on your site right as they might have been considering moving on to another site.
Other great reasons to add internal links include getting a link back from sites that steal your content (because hey, it’s going to happen – might as well get some value out of it right) and getting a handy trackback alert to sites stealing your content since they’ll be inadvertently linking back to your posts. I’ve found many a thieving websites using this tactic.
Last but not least during the publishing stage is deciding when to actually publish your post. Did you write an amazing post on a Saturday? Then you definitely don’t want to hit the publish button – think about a day during the week that will likely bring you more traffic (I prefer Mondays and Tuesdays for the best posts) and schedule it then. Also consider, for those of you in Triberr or those who have a lot of people automatically tweeting your posts when it goes live, the time you are planning to publish. You want all of those tweets to be seen by your target audience as opposed to going out at 2:30 in the morning when your time zone is fast asleep. I have found 9 AM EST best getting the most social sharing and 12 AM PST best for getting the most comments. More commenters are insomniacs I guess.

The Promotion Stage

This, I must admit, is probably my favorite part of blogging. While awesome content is the only thing that will make you go viral, awesome content will never actually go viral if no one sees it. So unless the world comes to your blog on a daily basis without any incentive, you’re probably going to have to go tell the world about your post through blog post promotion.
I have different “levels” of post promotion processes. I don’t think you bring out the big guns for every post you publish – unless you only publish once a week and every post is 100% gold certified awesome. I, for example, have several posts a week that go live between my site and the others I write for. Although you may your heart into every post, you know which ones are killer awesome and which ones are averagely awesome.
For averagely awesome posts, my post promotion process includes:
  • Tweeting the post from my account, usually just once between 7 AM PST and 11 AM PST.
  • Sharing it on Facebook, LinkedIn, OR Google+, but not all three.
For awesome posts (once a week), my post promotion process includes all of the above plus:
  • Sharing it on two out of three networks between Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+.
  • Sharing it with my followers on StumbleUpon (not a quick process as I have almost a thousand and I have found that you have to share in small groups in order for the share to actually work correctly and send to everyone).
  • Give it an extra tweet, later in the evening or the next day that it goes live.
  • Inclusion in my writing portfolio.
  • Inclusion in my custom RSS feed for Triberr, Blog Engage, and other social site submission.
For killer awesome posts, my post promotion process includes all of the above plus:
  • Sharing it on all three networks between Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+.
  • Sharing it in groups on Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Multiple tweets with re-worked titles over the course of the next week.
  • Blog commenting promotion.
  • Direct messaging some partners in social media to see if they’ll help spread the word.
Promotion can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, and then some over the course of the next few days. If you’re entering a blogging contest, you have to step that up ten-fold to ensure you have the most social votes possible to win. And of course, your social promotion isn’t going anywhere if you haven’t built up a good audience, so you have to lay a good foundation before you can have a successful blog post promotion execution.

A good idea on how to use article marketing and yahoo answers to do ClickBank

0

Someone propose an idea on how to use article marketing and yahoo answers to do ClickBank. It sounds like a good direction.

Firstly, choose 1 product:
1. Post 3 review style articles about 1 product to Articlesbase.com, goarticles.com targeting optimized results below 5000 competing pages on google.com.
2. Post 7 how to style articles using the same product, using the same sites above targeting optimized results below 5000 competing pages on google.com.
3. Post to 5 posts for the product on yahoo answers making sure I provide good info, to make sure I dont get banned.
I will conduct this using a NEW Clickbank account.
At the bottom of each article for the forward click, all articles will forward to my domain.

How To Start A Blog

0

How to start a blog? – This is the most common question that new bloggers always ask when they are interested in starting a blog. Thousands of people are searching for “how to start a blog” but still don’t get any good result because most of guides/tutorials on the internet right now are outdated. If your goal is to create a successful blog that will attract a lot of readers and generate passive income, this is the very first post you should read carefully.

In this guide of how to start a blog, I’m going to begin at the very basics and step by step help you run your first blog. I’m going to cover:
  • Decide to Start TODAY
  • Choose the right niche
  • How to choose and buy the right domain name
  • Choose Blogging Plaforms
  • How to choose a reliable and affordable hosting provider
  • Selecting the blog design to build a brand
  • Installing your first blog
There are a lots to cover, so let’s get started!

1. How To Start a Blog? – Decide To Start TODAY

I realize that most of new bloggers (like me) are stucking with a failed blog not because they can’t build a successful blog, the only reason is that they are reading too much but not taking any action. So, promise me, you will take action after reading this detailed guide. TODAY, not tomorrow, not next week, and not next month. Tomorrow always feels “safe” because you’re not having to make a decision. The power of today is that you make that commitment to yourself. And that is the first step to success.
This step is the very important! Don’t dream or thinking about doing something. Just get up and do it.

2. How To Start a Blog? – Choose The Right Niche

Although personal blogs often wander through a variety of themes and topics, for a serious blog project you will want to focus on a limited range of topics. Defining a single main area or niche for your blog topic has three main benefits:
1. It’s Easier to Build a Memorable Brand
2. Your Readers Know What to Expect
3. It’s Easier to Attract Advertising

Broad Niches or Sub Niches?

1. Broad Niches
Pros:
+ Large depth of content
+ Larger potential
Cons:
+ Might be a bit TOO much to write about if you have limited resources
+ More competition and often more organized competition
2. Sub Niches
Pros:
+ Less competition makes them easier to dominate
+ Can act as a foothold into the larger niche
+ Can be better for branding to have a strong “angle” on the broad topic
Cons:
+ Smaller potential
+ Not as much depth of content
+ Can get boring!

Do You Interested In Your Niche?

It can be very difficult to blog on a topic in which you have little or no personal interest. If you have no passion in a niche you will not be able to build a massive blog about it. I’ve started many blogs in the early of 2011 but all of them are shut down or be sold.
These niches have a big potential in making money but I can’t have any effort to write because I don’t have any interest and experience in this niche. So let’s choose the topic that you love and consitent learn and write about it frequently.

Can You Create Value?

For a blog to be successful it must create real value for its readers. It must be a worthwhile addition to their reading schedule. Creating value doesn’t mean you necessarily need to create a blog that is totally unique. It might simply mean that your blog explains a hard topic in a really simple way, or it might mean your blog has a much more frequent posting schedule giving more up-to-the-minute updates. Writing post based on your experience is the good idea to create value.
If you are unsure whether your blog can create value in a certain niche, try asking yourself these questions:
1. Can you generate a lot of content in this niche?
2. Do you know or are you able to find out things that others
want to know?
3. Can you create content that isn’t currently available elsewhere?
4. Do you have a different take or angle on existing subject matter?
5. If someone else came out with the blog you are planning, would you
read it?
That’s it! You’ve read about how to choose the right niche and this is a task for you:
Task 1: Take action and choose your niche now! Write down your interrest and review them. You must have your niche before reading next section.

3. How To Start a Blog? – Choose and Buy The Right domain name

A domain name is the web address or URL that you type into your web browser to navigate to a web page. For example passiveincomediary.com is my blog’s domain name.
Domain name is not only your blog’s address but also your brand so you need to research and choose wisely. The first reason that I started this blog because I want to change my domain name to fit my niche selection. There are some tips will help you:
1. Domain has to be as short as possible
Example: Chocolate.com is the top choice, ourchocolate.com is a good domain at this time. Ourbestchocolate.com it ok but ourbestchocolateonline.com is useless.
2. Easy to remember
Let me ask you a question, do you bookmark a random website that you just read ? NO . That’s why you should pick the easy to remember domain, they don’t bookmark but they will remember your domain.
Example: Google.com is a good example, people usually don’t bookmark Google but they will remember it since it’s so easy to remember.
3. Easy to spell
In english one word can have up to hundred meaning, don’t pick a domain that make people confusing when they read it.
Example: PenisLand.com Porn website ? No. Confusing domain will get unwanted traffic.
4. .Com is the best domain
Try to use .com domain because it been out for along time and it’s in people mind. For example: You want to buy a domain name ezwebs.com but it’s not available, try to pick izwebs.com instead. If you really like your domain but .com is not available try .net .org .us ,….
What make .com is the best domain ? Big company use .com domain: google.com, bing.com,…. people use to put .com for a domain suffix because they use google.com or bing.com at least 5 times a day.
5. Meaningful domain
Your domain has to go with your website, don’t use random domain name. If you look for a tutorials website, two website show up on google: WebsiteTutorials.com and PhilsDavid.com, people will pick websitetutorials.com because the domain show people that this website is only for website tutorials. Have keywords in your domain might be a good idea but at this time, it’s very hard to choose a short, easy to remember domain include keyword in.
6. Domain with “-“
My-computer-stores.com, this domain seems pretty good because is’s meaningful but “-” symbol is always to far away from other . “-” also make it hard to tell other people about your website, even harder when they try to remember your domain.
Don’t use number in your domain because it will confuse people. pixel2life.com sound like pixeltolife.com. That’s why you shouldn’t use number in your domain.
7. Copyright Domain
Don’t use domain with some company or software name (r) or (TM). Because you website may become a big website and you will get into domain copyright issue.
Words like Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw … it already registered . Domain with those words will count at violate copyright because you use that words without asking.
These tips to pick domain sometime don’t work well with your domain name, but try to follow these tip because it will help you out a lots later on.
Task 2: Depending on your selected niche, choose your domain name wisely and buy it at trusted domain registar like : Godaddy

4. How To Start a Blog? – Choose Blogging Plaforms

A blog needs blogging software and a web server to host it. There are two directions you can go here – hosted or self-hosted.

Hosted Blogs

A hosted blog is a service such as WordPress.com or Blogger.com.  These services let you sign up for your own free blog that is hosted on their servers.
The pros of a hosted blog are:
  • Quick and easy to set up, usually within just a few minutes
  • Free, no domain name registration or web hosting fees
  • No ongoing maintenance such as updating software or applying security settings
The cons of a hosted blog are:
  • Can’t use your own domain name unless you pay extra
  • Limited customizations without paying extra
  • Can’t add on other website components such as discussion forums
  • Difficult and sometimes prohibited to monetize, for example by adding advertising

Self-Hosted Blogs

A self-hosted blog uses software such as WordPress.org and is installed on web server space that you purchase from a web hosting provider.
The pros of self-hosted blogs are:
  • Uses your own domain name that allowing you to make a massive brand
  • Unlimited customizations through the use of free or paid visual themes and plugins
  • Unlimited expansion of your website to include discussion forums, newsletters, ecommerce, and much more
  • Freedom to monetize your website as you wish
The cons of self-hosted blogs are:
  • Responsible for your own installation, although this is made easier thanks to automatic installation scripts provided by most web hosts
  • Some minor costs involved with buying a domain name and web hosting
Personally I would recommend you to buy web hosting and self-host a wordpress blog on it for complete control on your blog.

6. How To Start a Blog – Selecting a blog design to build a brand

When a new person visits your site, you only have only few seconds to grab her/his attention to make he/she read your blog and become a loyal reader. I can say that blog design is one of the element make or break the success of your blog.
The good thing about designing WordPress blogs in particular is that you don’t really need to know any code and you don’t have to be proficient in software like Photoshop. Everything can either be outsourced and purchased for a fee, or found around the web for free.
Recommended Blog Themes:
  • Genesis Framework
  • Thesis Framework
  • WooThemes
Task 5: Considering and selecting your blog design. I recommend you to use premium themes because they are designed by professional designer.

Gmail search made easier and lazier

0

Google has built a new feature in Gmail Labs: Search Autocomplete - with the aim of making search in Gmail easier.

Turn on Search Autocomplete from the Labs tab under Gmail Settings, and youll get suggestions as you type in the search box. One of the most popular searches in Gmail is for names or email addresses, so the first kind of suggestions youll see are contacts. Some names are not easy to remember (my last name is an excellent example!) — with this new Labs feature you can just type a couple letters and select the desired contact from the drop down list. Easy and quick as that.

Gmail also offers a bunch of advanced search operators, which provide a powerful way to find that one message you have in mind. You can search in specific places (e.g. in chats or sent items), or search for messages with attachments of a certain type (e.g. docs or photos). Suppose I want to search for photos that were sent to me by my friend Chris. Normally, I would have to enter Chris email address followed by filename:(jpg OR png), which I gladly admit is even a bit too geeky for me. With Search Autocomplete, I can just type "photos" or "pictures," select "has photos" from the drop down list (as in the screenshot below), and the search query (filename:(jpg OR png)) gets inserted for me. Similarly, you can type in the word "attachment" and Search Autocomplete will list the most common attachment types for you.

One of the reasons we still show you the geeky search query is to allow you to adapt it to your needs. For example, if youd like to include tiff files in your search result, you can adapt the query manually to filename:(jpg OR png OR tiff).

A Special Birthday Box Perfect Gift Idea

0

Special birthday box, present gift idea, for parents and grandparents

Today is my mums birthday and unlike past years, where I have just given her a simple generic gift, I wanted to make this years something special. Theres always that one person who is hard to buy for - in my case thats my mum. She isnt a make up person, doesnt like scented things and never really states or even hints at particular things. So I popped onto pinterest to try and get some creative ideas. Then I came across Clarinas Contemplations with the idea of finding key events from the year the person was born and then relating gifts to it. Its brilliant!

I went on over to Wikipedia and found key events of the year she was born and began brainstorming related gift ideas, baring in mind I wanted to include as many home-made things as I could - thats one thing I know she loves.  This was a few weeks ago so I thought I was doing well, not leaving things to the last minute as usual. But then I got really busy and only managed to pick up my list of supplies earlier this week. This then meant that my brothers and I had only 1 day to put it all together - yesterday.

One thing I found quite funny though is the fact that each day this past week, Ive had to sneak a few things from the kitchen (cake tin, electric whisk, flour etc) and gather them in a hidden box in my room. As we went to my dads to put the gift together and bake the goodies, so we wouldnt need to kick my mum out the house for a day, but he isnt much of a baker so has literally no baking utensils or ingredients. Im not sure whether my mum noticed the things disappearing or not.

Yesterday was none stop! I was up and out the door by nine, had a hair appointment first, then it was a day with my brothers full of crafts, baking a birthday cake and biscuits and wrapping - lots of wrapping. We cant forget the licking of the bowls and eating the leftover biscuits mmmmmm.

vanilla cookies dipped in chocolate

The gifts each had a tag on them with the key event and a little message so shed understand how we are relating them. We bought one of those big cards and a balloon to go along side the birthday box and presented them to her with the delicious cake - yum! She loved it and because we had been thoughtful about it all, it was much more satisfying watching her open them.

Id highly recommend doing this idea for someone special for their birthday, its a way of showing them you care as youve put time, thought and effort into it.

Cakes are special. Every birthday, every celebration ends with something sweet, a cake, and people remember. Its all about the memories. - Buddy Valastro
