My Skincare Routine

0

my skincare routine. candles simple skin care clean and clear duac st ives scrub botanics

It has taken me quite a while to find myself an effective skincare routine, to be honest I think this is the first proper one Ive had and stuck to. If you read my acne story, youll know about my skin type and that I tried countless products. For those of you who dont know, I have the very annoying combination type skin. By which I have an oily t-zone, which can at the same time get dry and flaky, alongside normal cheeks. Finding products that dont completely dry out my skin, but at the same time dont send it shooting up to the oily end, is pretty difficult. So I try and balance out the products I use to suit all my skins needs.

Simple skincare wipes

First of all, at night anyway, I remove my make-up. It may sound strange, but I dont use the typical make-up removing wipes or some kind of special make-up removing lotion, I use baby wipes. Okay, I know it may not remove make-up as well as other methods but I personally wear very little - a bit of concealer, mascara, eye-liner and a dab of powder, and I find they work just find. In my opinion, they are much gentler on the skin with no harsh chemicals, as they are made for babies. Im using Simples Soothing Chamomile Moisturising Wipes. An added bonus is that they are more economical - around £1/£2 for 80 wipes opposed to 25 wipes specifically for removing make up around the same price.

clean&clear cream wash johnson&johnson

Next, Ill cleanse with Clean & Clear Deep Action Cream Wash. I use this both in the morning and at night. I find this product to be really effective whilst still feeling gentle on the skin. As it is a cream wash, it feels so nice when applying to to the skin and afterwards my skin doesnt feel dried out and tight, which I have found with quite a lot of cleansers. Furthermore, its oil free!

St ives apricot scrub

Around 2 or 3 times a week I will use St Ives Apricot Scrub - only at night time. Im sure youve heard many people talk about this product and quite a while ago too. Im not late jumping on the band wagon as Ive been using this for around 2 years now and, once I learnt that its not to be used every night, I could see why everyone loved it. Its a product aimed at oily/blemish prone skin, and although it doesnt have a major impact on my skin, the salicylic acid in it helps to keep some control over blemishes. This is oil free too.

simple skin care kind to skin replenishing rich moisturiser

After cleansing, Ill use Simples Kind To Skin Rich Moisturiser. Ive wrote a full blog post review on this (here), but it is perfect for adding the right amount of moisture my skin needs.

prescribed acne medication duac

Last of all, every night Ill apply a small amount of Duac, which is initially a benzoyl peroxide gel. Again, if you read my acne story, youll know that my doctor put me on prescribed medication and this is the product Im using at the moment and it works much better, on my skin, than salicylic acid.

boots botanics clay mask

Around once every week or fortnight, Ill use a face mask. I have a choice of 2, depending on what I feel my skin needs. If I think it needs a nice deep clean Ill use Botanics Ionic Clay Mask. This was the last product to be added into my routine and I love it! You can really feel a difference after using it, my skin feels so soft, fresh and clean. With many clay masks, Ive found them very over drying on my skin, but this one not so much - I tend to put a little extra moisturiser on afterwards.

On the other hand if I feel my skin needs a little umpf, Ill use a honey mask. Simply applying a thin layer of honey all over my face, massaging it in and then leaving it for 10 minutes before washing off. Honey has many benefits for the skin, it helps soothe and fight acne, moisturises and gives a healthy smooth glow.

And thats pretty much it. Whats your favourite skin care product at the moment?

My Most Embarrassing Moments

0

18 years ago today, on the 18th March 1997, I was born. What does that mean? I can now go out to pubs and clubs in the evenings, legally buy alcohol, have a nice alcoholic beverage with my meal at restaurants etc...Lets face it, I probably wont do that. Ill probably still spend my Friday and Saturday nights tucked up in bed with a cup of tea and a good film. Not to mention the fact that I still look about 12.

Within those 18 years (wow, I dont know whether that makes me feel quite old saying that...), Ive done quite a few embarrassing, awkward or just plain weird things. The other week, whilst I was re-watching some of Dan (danisnotonfire) and Phils (amazingphil) videos in which they seem to constantly share their embarrassing moments, it got me thinking about mine. I jotted down the first few that came to mind and thought itd be kind of funny to share them. Here goes...

My most embarrassing moments

The Stage Incident

So I did music as one of my GCSEs and part of the course was to perform as an ensemble. Our group decided we would enter a local competition that was auditioning around different schools - this itself was a bad idea to start with as I literally cannot perform well in front of people, Im just prone to mess up. Im happy with just a small audience of myself. For this reason I simplified my part right down to just basic chords.

It came to performance time, in front of a hall full of other students and the judges, and I had to open the piece. The moment I pressed down on the keys, I had made a mistake! Completely the wrong notes and you could tell! I couldnt cover it up so I literally stood up and said something along the lines of oops, wait...oh dear I did it...let me start again. Bearing in mind I am quite quiet, shy and one of those that only really speaks around friends.

The reaction from the audience was split. There were those that did one of those what the heck? not funny laughs (not the HAHAHA type of laugh more like a ha -hopefully you know what I mean). Then there was those that just sat in silence that made the situation awkward.

The Bus Incident

I was spending the day in Manchester with some friends and was using the buses for the first (and last) time. My friends had already gone and sat down whilst I was getting my ticket. In my town we dont have a panel between us and the driver, so normally they can somewhat clearly hear me. I was trying to tell the driver where I was going and the people behind me started getting annoyed, well I kind of repeat myself about 5 times, as well as the driver frustratingly repeating what?!. As I knew that the ticket only cost £1, I simply held up my £1 and shouted pound - making me look like an incapable human being in front of a bus full of people.

I often do speak too quietly, but I didnt realised it so much until this happened.

The Misheard Incident

Around Christmas time one year I was walking home and bumped into a family friend, who was busy running tidying out the car or something. She started a causal conversation on the generic how are you? kind of topics - basically small talk, which Im no good at. Then she asked me if I was all set for Christmas? and I replied with you too and happily walked off. It was only when a few seconds later when I realised what she had said. I though she had said Merry Christmas...

The Mistaken Car Incident

Whilst walking to school one morning, my friend and her dad passed in their car; very kindly they turned down a side street to give me lift. As I turned down the street I spotted, what I thought to be, their car and got in. There wasnt anyone in the car and I just assumed theyd gone into the shop, so I sat a waited for a few moments. But then I looked up and saw my friend and her dad sat in a car across the road...

Luckily the person, whose car I was in, didnt see me. But Im still confused as to why they had left it unlocked and unattended.

Whenever these types of moments pop into my head, I want to shrivel up into a ball of embarrassment and other times I laugh way more than I should at them.

Id love to know what your most embarrassing moments are!

9 Things For A Perfect Mothers Day

0

Mothers day is a week away and if you are anything like me, you get stuck every year thinking how to make the day as perfect as possible and give thanks to your mum for everything. I was much easier when you were younger and you would spend one afternoon in primary school on mothers day crafts. You thought you where being all secretive hiding them away in hard to find places, like placing them in a drawer she would go in when putting washing away.

Anyway, Ive put together a few little things you could do that are simple, but will make a perfect mothers day.

1. Breakfast -

Yes, I know, stereotypical mothers day thing is breakfast in bed. But instead of waking your mum up, which may not be so greatly appreciated, wait until she is up and then cook her up her favourite breakfast; even if that is just a bowl of cereal. Just make sure youre up before her!

2. Fresh flowers -

Like I said above, wake up earlier and place a vase of lovely flowers in the centre of the table. Brighten up the day (especially if it decides to rain, which it most likely will in the UK).

3. Bake -

Something homemade is always a winner! It doesnt matter if it doesnt go to plan, its the thought that counts. Right?!

  • The Best Chocolate Cake - This looks so delicious! Nothing beats a good slice (or 2) of chocolate cake, am I right?
  • Tea Bag Cookies - These are such a cute little idea for mothers who love to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of tea and a couple of biscuits along side to dunk in.
  • Strawberry Almond Layer Cake - In my opinion, this sounds like the perfect afternoon tea cake!
  • Healthy Banana Bread - Weve always got to have a healthier option.

4. No arguments -

All families have their little fall outs; for me and my brothers its almost a daily occurrence over something small and silly. But agree to not have any fall outs for the day, no sibling squabbles, keep it a day of peace.

5. Laundry basket full? Do the washing. -

This goes for other little chores as well: washing up, hoovering, picking up that shoe left in the centre of the floor. Not only will you get the chores for that day done, you may get a few of the following days cleared of chores too. Theyll greatly appreciate it! Especially if you and your siblings are working together to do them.

6. Go for a family walk -

Its a day to spend as a family. So, instead of sitting in different rooms glued to screens all day, why not leave all technology and go for a nice little walk.

7. Allow her some peace and quiet -

This contradicts the one above, but sometimes our mums may prefer spending a little time to themselves without having to rush around after us, do an abundance of tasks and dont want to be bothered too much. Take the rest of the family out for an hour or 2, you can still go for a walk.

8. A special gift -

Although the day doesnt have to be about gifts, in my opinion, I think its the perfect opportunity to give a little something. We all remember the days in primary school, coming home with a handmade card and some kind of crafted gift stuffed in our bags so they wouldnt see. But then when we presented them, they would be all crumpled. Some of my personal favourites are gifts that involve something either homemade, memorabilia or a little bit of chocolate (you cant go wrong with chocolate!)

  • Generation photo - This is such a cute little idea and so easy to do, its a shame I cant recreate it for quite a long time yet!
  • Old Book Photo Album - Have a little rummage, find your favourite family photos from over the years and put them together in one place.
  • A Wallet Surprise - Yes, this one does say for him but you can still use the concept and slip them into her purse.
  • Easy Homemade Chocolate Treats - So simple to quickly throw together the day before, and great to do with younger siblings. Plus any leftovers you can enjoy yourself.

9. Tell her you love her -

Most of us probably dont do it as much as we should and although all the gifts and little things we do for our mums throughout the day SHOW them we love them, saying the word itself is the best gift they could want.

Are you planning on doing anything special for mothers day?

A Special Birthday Box Perfect Gift Idea

0

Special birthday box, present gift idea, for parents and grandparents

Today is my mums birthday and unlike past years, where I have just given her a simple generic gift, I wanted to make this years something special. Theres always that one person who is hard to buy for - in my case thats my mum. She isnt a make up person, doesnt like scented things and never really states or even hints at particular things. So I popped onto pinterest to try and get some creative ideas. Then I came across Clarinas Contemplations with the idea of finding key events from the year the person was born and then relating gifts to it. Its brilliant!

I went on over to Wikipedia and found key events of the year she was born and began brainstorming related gift ideas, baring in mind I wanted to include as many home-made things as I could - thats one thing I know she loves.  This was a few weeks ago so I thought I was doing well, not leaving things to the last minute as usual. But then I got really busy and only managed to pick up my list of supplies earlier this week. This then meant that my brothers and I had only 1 day to put it all together - yesterday.

One thing I found quite funny though is the fact that each day this past week, Ive had to sneak a few things from the kitchen (cake tin, electric whisk, flour etc) and gather them in a hidden box in my room. As we went to my dads to put the gift together and bake the goodies, so we wouldnt need to kick my mum out the house for a day, but he isnt much of a baker so has literally no baking utensils or ingredients. Im not sure whether my mum noticed the things disappearing or not.

Yesterday was none stop! I was up and out the door by nine, had a hair appointment first, then it was a day with my brothers full of crafts, baking a birthday cake and biscuits and wrapping - lots of wrapping. We cant forget the licking of the bowls and eating the leftover biscuits mmmmmm.

vanilla cookies dipped in chocolate

The gifts each had a tag on them with the key event and a little message so shed understand how we are relating them. We bought one of those big cards and a balloon to go along side the birthday box and presented them to her with the delicious cake - yum! She loved it and because we had been thoughtful about it all, it was much more satisfying watching her open them.

Id highly recommend doing this idea for someone special for their birthday, its a way of showing them you care as youve put time, thought and effort into it.
